Jon Oelrichs: Painting from the In Between Space

Sunday, September 11th, 2005 9:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.

A liminal space is a space that is neither here nor there. It is a threshold. It is a space that is ripe for change, a transitional space. In this workshop we will explore the act of art making and most specifically of painting, as occurring in the liminal space between imagination and materiality. We will explore the relationship between painter and object as something existing on a literal-imaginal continuum where the object itself becomes transitional, something that assists the process of shifting between these realms.

Large format paper, oil pastels and tempera paint will be provided. If you prefer to paint in other media please bring your own materials. If you have a musical instrument or instruments that you are comfortable sharing with others you are invited to bring these to the workshop experience.

Cost: $100 (includes lunch by Dempsey Fine Foods)

Linda Kristin Blix: Screen Mono-Printing

Tuesday, August 23rd, 2005 10:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.

For those who like to paint! This is a most impressive and simple technique! All you do is paint a picture - abstract colour play or something realistic, if you prefer. Instead of painting on paper, you will paint with brilliantly coloured fabric dye onto a silkscreen. Wallpaper paste is pulled across the screen and your painting is transferred onto paper. Magic!!

Cost: $70 (plus $10 materials fee)
