A liminal space is a space that is neither here nor there. It is a threshold. It is a space that is ripe for change, a transitional space. In this workshop we will explore the act of art making and most specifically of painting, as occurring in the liminal space between imagination and materiality. We will explore the relationship between painter and object as something existing on a literal-imaginal continuum where the object itself becomes transitional, something that assists the process of shifting between these realms. Large format paper, oil pastels and tempera paint will be provided. If you prefer to paint in other media please bring your own materials. If you have a musical instrument or instruments that you are comfortable sharing with others you are invited to bring these to the workshop experience. Cost: $100 (includes lunch by Dempsey Fine Foods)

For those who like to paint! This is a most impressive and simple technique! All you do is paint a picture - abstract colour play or something realistic, if you prefer. Instead of painting on paper, you will paint with brilliantly coloured fabric dye onto a silkscreen. Wallpaper paste is pulled across the screen and your painting is transferred onto paper. Magic!! Cost: $70 (plus $10 materials fee)

In this one-day workshop, participants learn the basic techniques to build an armchair in the bent-willow style. Each student will build an armchair to take home a the end of the day. Students will construct an armchair from materials and fasteners supplied by Kapristo Mountain Woodcraft. The wood will already be trimmed and pre-worked to the required suppleness, with the exception of a few pieces with which students will practice wood preparation techniques. Students will build the chair frame in the morning; in the afternoon, students will wrap the chair frame with long slim branches to form the arms and back hoop, then add the seat and back bars. Cost: $210 (includes all materials)
